I have visited Surinam in january 2005. It was not just a birding trip but it had mor of a family holiday. I took some days of to go birding with a local guide which I found with Stinasu. His name is Otte Ottema and we had some very interesting days together. With him I had the first experience of using bird calls to bring out elusive birds of the dense forests.

 

The rest of my time I spent around Paramaribo and for a couple of days we paid a visit to the Brownsberg National Park. I had planned some more trips to visit Inland, but because of the extreme drought there was not enough water in the rivers to travel. I had a special interest to see the "Cock of the Rock", but unfortunatelly this time luck was not on my side.
