Bird Families of the World

Agami Heron

The herons, egrets and bitterns are the long-legged freshwaters and coastal birds in the family Ardeidae, with 64 recognized species (of which I have photographed 44 species so far). Egrets tend to be named differently because they are mainly white or have decorative plumes and they tend to be smaller. Herons, by evolutionary adaptation, have long beaks.
