Bird Families of the World

Black-crested Antshrike

Antbirds are mostly understory birds with patterned plumages dominated by black, white, grey, and brown. Some antbird species regularly follow army ant swarms, eating fleeing insects, but this is not true for all members of this family. The family counts with many species.

The family is Thamnophilidae.

There are 234 species placed in 62 genera.

So far I have only photographed 20 different species, very view for such a specious family. In case I photographed the male and the female I have added a photograph of both.

To make it easier you can find the genus name combined with the species name (visible when displaying the photograph)
